Evil Dead: The Musical
As promised over on my other blog, here's the news everyone has been waiting for. This is what people have been holding their breath over for years, and now it's finally here. Evil Dead: The Musical! You don't believe it? I know, neither did I, but here's the website. Ok, so it's not that big of a deal (if it's even a "deal" at all), but it's interesting and here's why:
First of all, who would have ever thought this would ever become a musical? I can safely say nobody in the history of this movie has ever watched it and then immediately thought, "hey, you know what this movie needed? Musical numbers!" No, nobody did that. Maybe they said it needed other stuff, sure, but musicals were not on their mind.
They also screwed with the plot. It's based on the movie, obviously, but in the musical they focus on a group of friends, instead of just Ash. They still go to the cabin, they still unleash the evil, but now it's more like Evil Dead II because there's a group. I'm sure it's just so they can jam more awesome Evil Dead music in there! It's playing in New York, and keeping with the wild, popcorn movie-type atmoshphere, it will be shown at 11pm on Friday and Saturday nights.
Now, the BEST part about this entire thing: the first 3 rows of the theater will be labeled "Splatter Zone". YES! Blood flying everywhere! When Ash cuts his own hand off because it's possessed, the first 3 rows are going to know about it. I honestly think this is the only way they could have done this thing. Make it outrageous, make it funny (laugh at, not with), and make it as "B status" as the movie. I'm pretty sure Bruce Campbell would approve of this; especially the splatter zone. Hell, he'll probably be in the front row on opening night.
