Hot Fuzz

Hot Fuzz
I can't wait. If you know me, you know that I absolutely loved Shaun of the Dead, the zomcom of 2004. Well, the guys are back in the saddle. The movie is called Hot Fuzz, and it's about a bunch of hillariously worthless cops that take themselves far too seriously. It's got the same crew coming back for another round; Writer/director Edgar Wright, writer/actor Simon Pegg, and actor Nick Frost. This time they move from zombies to the force. It's slated to come out in 2007. Working Title Films gives the synopsis:

Police Constable, Nicholas Angel is good at his job, so good in fact, he makes everyone else look bad. As a result, his superiors at the Met have decided to sweep him under the carpet. So it is that London's top cop finds himself in the sleepy West Country village of Sandford. With neighborhood watch meetings replacing the action of the city, Angel struggles to adapt to his situation and finds himself partnered with Danny Butterman, an oafish but well meaning young Constable. Just as all seems lost, a series of grisly accidents motivates Angel into action. Convinced of foul play, Angel realizes that Sandford may not be as idyllic as it seems. With his faithful new partner in tow, Angel fights to prove his instincts are correct and uncover the truth about Sandford. Is Angel simply losing his mind in the safest, sweetest village in Britain? Or is something far more sinister at work? Whatever the truth, Sandford is about to get a lot less sleepy.

Hot Fuzz
I really can't wait for this. I thought Shaun of the Dead was a genius movie. I could watch that movie over and over for a long time and not get sick of it. What really sets it apart from other satires, though, is that it so blatantly mocks its genre. It's funny both because of its original humor and because of the accuracy in which they portray the zombie genre while slapping us in the face with how much of a joke it is. It's also worth noting its tasteless one liners; they never hurt. But everyone, at least in the back of their minds, knows that the zombie genre has always been half comedy. Especially when it's not trying to be. Shaun took advantage of a ripe target and hit in my opinion.

Now, this is a British comedy, so it's almost guaranteed to be funny. We always laugh at those Brits, even if it's simply at the way they talk. These guys are really funny though. I think Simon Pegg is hillarious, and hopefully he'll have as good of a time ripping the law enforcement genre apart as he did the zombie genre. While it's not a obvious, we've seen it done well in Reno 911, and hopefully this will be the ultimate Reno 911 of sorts. Take that Lethal Weapon! Really, it all boils down to the fact that I can't wait for this movie.

More to come when more comes. Yes, it's as simple as that.
